Painting my way back

16 October, 2018

Good day from The Stationery Bakery, aka studio of Sarah Donovan!

It is a rainy afternoon and thank goodness both kids are peacefully sleeping...for now haha. Normally, George is at school but the season of sick has begun.  Before I go down the path of mom mode and venting about how the struggle is REAL... I am happy to be writing today and sharing with the world all that is new with me.

Who am I?

I am the owner and artist behind The Stationery Bakery.  I have a sweet and savvy business man husband, and two precious and vibrant children ;).  We also have two bird dog mixes that can be found lounging around the house.  We live in New Braunfels, Texas and can be found trying all the food when we are not working, chasing kids, or watching Netflix.

What do I make?

I have been selling greeting cards, prints, and paper goods online and in stores for the past seven years. My designs all feature my original artwork.  My love of color, bohemian elements, and eclecticism is evident in the work I make.  I primarily paint botanicals and animals but occasionally will paint figures.

What's new with The Stationery Bakery?

As with most creative businesses, things have changed and evolved over the past few years! Actually, the most change has taken place in the past year since having our daughter, Edith.  Since time is precious, I have had to produce at a slower pace than I was used to before kids.  I have had a lot of time to meditate on business growth and the work I have been creating. I should add much of that time is thanks to running a business while having an infant attached to me when I don't have a sitter. Often I have found myself comparing my business and productivity to other businesses and have gotten lost in this unrealistic spider web of unmet expectations.  Thankfully, I have come to the conclusion that we operate in seasons.  Some seasons are slow and some seasons are crazy and chaotic.  Becoming a mother of babies while running a business has been full of really tough seasons but also really inspiring and fun seasons.  A lot of this most recent season has involved a roller coaster of sprints and calm walks.  The calm phases have allowed me to hone in on what I want to create and where I want to go as an artist.  The sprints involve me painting like a mad woman.  So, I am happy to share that I am now really focusing on producing fine art and fine art reproductions to be sold as interior and home decor.  I will still be selling greeting cards and prints of my work online and in boutiques.  I am just really excited about creating pieces to liven up unique and eclectic spaces.  This is not necessarily a huge leap or shift but more so a direction my creative business has been transitioning towards.

Will you be offering custom commissions?

Yes!  If you like a painting of mine but would like a custom piece, I am accepting commissions.

Thank you for reading and following along with me!

XOXO,

Sarah D.
